Original 1961 New York Yankees World Series Press Pin – Balfour
About This Item
An original press pin issued for the 1961 World Series at Yankee Stadium, where the New York Yankees beat the Cincinnati Reds four games to one. Press pins were handed to members of the media by the host team and worn on the lapel for access to cover the games; they were not sold to the public. The design is a gold-tone cutout ring with alternating red and white enamel bands reading "1961 · YANKEE STADIUM · WORLD SERIES · PRESS", crossed gold bats, and a blue enamel Yankees cap with the interlocking NY at center. The back is stamped BALFOUR and has the original threaded post with round screw-back clutch.
The 1961 season: 1961 was the year of the M&M Boys: Roger Maris hit his record 61 home runs and Mickey Mantle hit 54, and Whitey Ford won the World Series MVP. This pin is a piece of that championship.
